In a coal mine in southern China, a fire incident has resulted in the death of 16 people.
This incident occurred on Sunday in the coal mine in Shanxiawo Village, Pangguan Township, Guizhou Province.
Local authorities have confirmed this news.
In a social media post, the authorities of Panzhuo City have stated that preliminary investigations suggest that after a conveyor belt caught fire, the miners were trapped, leading to their deaths.
China is the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitter. Despite significant expansion of air and solar power capacity, they still heavily rely on coal for electricity generation.
In recent years, the country has taken many measures to improve the safety of its coal mining industry, but accidents like this continue to occur.
