Pakistan has formally applied to join the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) alliance, a consortium of five emerging economies. This information was revealed by Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, during a press conference in Islamabad last Thursday.
Among the current member countries of BRICS, which includes rivals like India, are Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa.
On Thursday, Mumtaz Zahra highlighted BRICS as an important coalition of developing nations, stating that Pakistan has officially expressed its interest in becoming a part of this alliance. She said, “We believe that joining BRICS can play a significant role in enhancing international cooperation and revitalizing multilateral participation, especially in the realm of sustainable development.”
The move indicates Pakistan’s aspiration to play a crucial role in global affairs through active participation in BRICS, a group recognized for its influence on international economic and political issues.
