Dhaka: The ruling party has finalized its candidates for all 300 seats in the upcoming twelfth National Parliament elections. Interviews of potential candidates for the party have already concluded. Although the finalization of the candidate list has been completed in meetings since Friday, the party has not made an official announcement.
The official announcement of the ruling party’s candidates for the national elections will take place formally at 4:00 pm today (November 27) at the central office of the party’s chairman in Motijheel. The information was revealed in a press release sent to the media on Sunday (November 26) night by the press secretary of the party chairman, Khandakar Delwar Jalali.
After the list’s publication, the fierce competition for party symbols will intensify in the run-up to the twelfth National Parliament elections. Meanwhile, a new conflict has arisen between the current chairman of the party and the chief patron on the issue of nominations.
The present chairman of the party, G.M. Kader, has not sought nomination from any constituency, and there has been an ongoing conflict between the current chairman G.M. Kader, and the chief patron, Roushan Ershad. This internal discord has gained notoriety in the political arena as the ‘Devar-Bhabi’ (Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law) conflict.
In this ongoing conflict between ‘Devar-Bhabi,’ a new twist is expected when the nephew challenges the aunt’s seat. According to party sources, G.M. Kader has collected nomination forms for the Dhaka-17 and Rangpur-3 constituencies.
In Rangpur-3, the current member of parliament from the party is Hussein Muhammad Ershad’s son Rahgir Al-Mahi Saad Ershad. If G.M. Kader wins from Rangpur-3 in the upcoming elections, it is speculated that a new conflict may arise between the chairman and the chief patron within the party.
Regarding this issue, the current chairman and the chief patron of the party, Roushan Ershad, have not made any statements. So, there is currently no opportunity for any discussion on this issue. However, the party’s senior leaders believe that if G.M. Kader is elected from Rangpur, it may intensify the conflict between him and Roushan Ershad.
This new development has added a new dimension to the ongoing conflict between ‘Devar-Bhabi.’ The chief patron, Roushan Ershad, and her son Saad Ershad have not yet collected nominations from any constituency. Therefore, there is currently no possibility of any competition between the chief patron, Roushan Ershad, and her son Saad Ershad in the upcoming elections.
Notably, the distribution of nomination forms for the national elections by the ruling party began on Monday (November 20). The five-day distribution of nomination forms ended on Thursday (November 23). A total of 1,752 people have collected nomination forms from the party.
Later, the interview process for potential candidates began on Friday (November 24) in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions. On Sunday (November 26), interviews were conducted in the Dhaka, Chittagong, and Mymensingh divisions. The final list of candidates for the two Dhaka constituencies will be announced on Saturday (November 25). Japa Chairman G.M. Kader and his wife Sherifa Kader have already submitted nomination forms for the two Dhaka seats from the Returning Officer’s office.
