Earthquake in the Philippines, Tsunami in Japan

A tsunami has been observed in Japan’s Hachijojima Island following the earthquake in the Philippines on Saturday. However, it has not been deemed significantly large. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a tsunami wave of 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) has been seen on the island, located 180 miles south of Tokyo. Earlier concerns suggested that the wave could be as high as three feet.

Last Saturday, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao in the Philippines. Following this event, both the Philippines and Japan have taken precautionary measures in anticipation of potential tsunami impacts.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported on Saturday night that a tsunami could potentially hit the Philippines in the midnight hours.
