The T20 World Cup is set to begin in June next year. Many have already started to think about team combinations for the World Cup, forgetting the success or failure in the 2023 ODI World Cup. India has already played a series against Australia after the World Cup. South Africa will play for the first time today.
There aren’t many matches between these two teams to find the right combination for the World Cup. Only six international T20 matches will decide which team will proceed to the T20 World Cup, India or South Africa. How will India and South Africa find the best team with just six matches? Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Proteas vice-captain Aiden Markram have provided the answer to that question before the first T20 match of the series.
Both Suryakumar and Markram believe that just six matches are not enough to find the best team. However, both captains trust their domestic T20 tournaments. So, while Suryakumar will look towards the IPL for the best team, Markram looks at the SA T20 league.
In a press conference, Suryakumar said, ‘I feel there are limited T20 matches before the World Cup. However, we play 14 league matches in the IPL. Players who play international T20s have played many matches and have a lot of experience. So, I don’t think there will be any problem in finalizing the squad. Everyone knows their roles and responsibilities, and how to perform in different situations.’
Markram added, ‘It’s amazing. We have six matches left before the World Cup, which isn’t ideal. But due to our luck in the SA T20 and domestic T20 tournaments, we have many matches ahead of us. Hopefully, when it’s time to select the World Cup squad, everyone will be fit and ready.’
