The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has proposed changing the titles of Education Officers and Assistant Education Officers at the district or thana education offices and the Education Officers and Assistant Education Officers at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
This proposal was presented at the 12th meeting of the Secretariat Committee on Administrative Development for the fiscal year 2023-24, held on Thursday (May 9).
According to the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the title of “Education Officer” at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will be changed to “Primary Education Officer.” Additionally, the title of Education Officers at the district or thana level will be changed to District or Thana Primary Education Officers.
The Ministry informs that the position of Thana or District Education Officer was created on the recommendation of the Marshal Law Committee on Non-organizational Setup. Such initiatives are taken after the current government comes to power. Approval for these changes may be granted at the meeting of the Secretariat Committee on Administrative Development.
At this meeting, chaired by Cabinet Secretary M. Mahbub Hossain, proposals for creating new posts and amending recruitment regulations will be presented by 23 ministries and divisions. Concerned secretaries are invited to attend the meeting in due course, as requested by the Ministry of Public Administration.
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has proposed changing the title of “Education Officer” at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education to “Primary Education Officer.” Similarly, the titles of Education Officers at the district or thana level will be changed to District or Thana Primary Education Officers. Currently, officers in both sectors receive remuneration at the ninth grade (first class), and even with the change in designation, they will continue to receive the same salary.
Likewise, Assistant Education Officers at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will be designated as “Assistant Primary Education Officers.” Similar changes are being made at the district or thana level. These officers will continue to receive remuneration at the tenth grade as before.
Earlier, on February 12, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education had sent a proposal for changing designations from the Primary Education Department to the Ministry. The Ministry of Public Administration has approved the change in titles with some conditions. Following this, a proposal has been sent to the Secretariat Committee on Administrative Development for issuance of government orders or G.O. for the changes.
