Rise of corona infection in Khulna, Rangpur, Rajshahi

The number of corona patients and deaths has decreased across the country but the detection rate has increased. High rates of infection have been recorded in Khulna-Rangpur-Rajshahi division. In the border districts of the country, the number of cases of coronavirus delta-type outbreaks has increased significantly within a week.

According to the bulletin of the Department of Health, the number of identified patients has increased by 27.20 percent in the last week (June 6-June 12) from the previous (May 30-June 5). Where sample testing increased by 2.43 percent. During this time the death toll has risen to 7.14 percent.

Medical crises have been created in places of high infection. Regarding the matter, the director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital said, “Rajshahi Medical College Hospital has only 18 ICU beds for the treatment of corona patients but 70 to 80 applications are received every day.”

The detection rate was higher at 30.64 percent in Khulna division, 25 percent in Rangpur division and 18.22 percent in Rajshahi division. In Dhaka division the infection rate is 7.63 percent.

The Khulna Divisional Health Director said, ‘We have taken all possible initiatives to address the situation. Traffic has been restricted to high-risk areas.

He said that the situation would improve if the people complied with the restrictions imposed by the government.

The Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director said, ‘Although the number of patients here is not very high, the detection rate is higher than usual. The health department is keeping a close watch on the situation so that it does not deteriorate further.

According to the notification of the Department of Health, the highest number of 11 deaths in the last 24 hours is in Khulna division. Besides, 10 people died in Dhaka division and 7 in Rajshahi. Apart from this, 6 people died in Chittagong, 2 in Barisal, 2 in Rangpur and 1 in Sylhet.

According to the standards of the World Health Organization, the rate of patient identification is an indicator of whether the situation is under control in a country. In any country, the situation is under control if the patient identification rate is below 5 percent for more than two consecutive weeks.

There is no department in Bangladesh at the moment the detection rate is less than 5 percent. The lowest infection rate in Barisal division is 7.40 percent. As such, the infection has been recorded below 10 percent in Dhaka, Barisal and Mymensingh divisions.
