Implementing this Budget Will Propel Bangladesh Forward: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today emphasized that the national budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is not overly ambitious, asserting her commitment to advancing Bangladesh through its implementation.

She stated, “I do not consider this budget to be ambitious. Through implementing this budget, Bangladesh will advance another step forward.” The Prime Minister and Leader of the House, Sheikh Hasina, made these remarks while participating in the budget discussion in the National Parliament.

She highlighted that the current budget is the largest in Bangladesh’s history, with a size of BDT 7.97 trillion. The Annual Development Programme (ADP) is set at BDT 2.65 trillion, with a growth target of 6.75%.

Addressing concerns, Sheikh Hasina said, “Some have called the budget ambitious, while others termed it a deficit budget, doubting its feasibility. However, taking on challenges is our forte. We move forward by embracing challenges.”

She acknowledged that although the targets set may not always be fully achieved, having clear goals is crucial for progress. “Where we once had a budget of BDT 62,000 crore, we now have a budget of BDT 7 trillion. We have reached this point by accepting challenges,” she stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the aim is to change the fortunes of the people, ensuring continuous development. “Our development trajectory must remain uninterrupted, and this budget reflects that aim.”

Looking towards the future, Sheikh Hasina expressed her vision for a hunger-free, poverty-free, developed, and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041, as outlined in the budget. She believes that the steps and targets set in this budget will help achieve the perspective plan up to 2041.

She reiterated that the Awami League government does not forget its electoral promises and takes measures to implement them upon being elected. The session was presided over by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, and Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader also addressed the session.
