Optical fiber is coming to the three hill districts

The government has taken initiative to bring Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban under strong network. For this, optical fiber network is being set up in the districts. The proposal of the project of the Information and Communication Technology Department has been approved in the 16th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.

After the meeting, the Additional Secretary to the Cabinet said that a total of 59 unions have been set up in three unions in three hill districts (Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari) under the “Establish Broadband Connectivity in Connected Areas (Connected Bangladesh)” project to establish a permanent network in remote areas.

Considering the security risks and environmental constraints as the unions in the hilly areas are extremely remote, the proposal has been approved in principle through the Bangladesh Army for direct purchase.

Besides, 11 proposals of different ministries and departments were approved in the meeting. Among them were six from the Road Transport and Highways Department, two from the Local Government Department, one from the Public Safety Department, one from the Ministry of Water Resources and one from the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

The additional secretary of the cabinet department said the total amount in the 11 approved proposals is Tk 2,589.30 crore.

Of this, the government will spend Tk 790.82 crore and Tk 1,06.8 crore will be spent on loans from ADB, AFD and EIB.
