Vaccine nationalism will prolong epidemic: WHO

World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described vaccine nationalism as a booster dose given by rich countries will extend the epidemic.

The World Health Organization says that if the world’s weakest nations are left to the mercy of the epidemic, the world will look back on itself with shame.

The head of the agency said that the idea of taking booster doses of rich countries at the risk of coronary disease in most countries of the world was referred to as irrational greed, which would prolong the epidemic.

At the same time, the UN body has strongly condemned the priority given to booster third doses by vaccine manufacturers, leaving health workers and the elderly in poor countries completely unvaccinated.

The most frequently asked question at the press conference by the head of the agency, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is when will the epidemic end?

Asked the same question again, he said, “We can finish it very soon.” Because we have weapons in our hands. But the world lacks competent leadership.

He said, vaccine nationalism would prolong the crisis. It can be called greed by explaining it in one word.

Tedders added that giving booster doses to other countries around the world would be counterproductive. It simply came to our notice then.

Soma Swaminathan, the agency’s chief scientist, said, four countries had already announced booster doses, and some were considering taking the initiative.

She added that there is currently no scientific evidence to support the need for such a dose.

Tedders, meanwhile, pointed to vaccine producers Mordana and Pfizer, saying people in countries that are already relatively safe after receiving the vaccine should strengthen the supply chain of Covax rather than prioritizing booster doses.

Tedros also noted an increase in corona infections around the world for four consecutive weeks until last week, when an alarming delta type of corona spread to more than 104 countries around the world. And soon this type is expected to become the main strain of corona worldwide.
