Bangladesh getting 2,45,200 doses of vaccine from Japan

Today, Bangladesh is going to get 2,45,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Japan as the first consignment under the Covax facility.

A Cathay Pacific Airways flight carrying the ticker consignment will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 3 p.m.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen will receive these vaccines.

Earlier, Momen said, Japan would send more than 2.9 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in a few steps.

He added that the government has already made arrangements to procure more Covid-19 vaccines from various sources under Covax as well as commercial procurement to ensure uninterrupted supply of vaccine to the people.

Covax is a global alliance led by the Vaccine Alliance-Gavi to achieve a balanced supply of the Covid-19 vaccine worldwide.

The news of the arrival of consignment of AstraZeneca vaccine is good news for Bangladesh. Because at the moment 1.5 million people are waiting for the second dose of this vaccine made in Oxford.

Bangladesh has so far received 12 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Serum Institute of India (SII).
