The G-7 emergency meeting starting on Afghanistan issue

The G-7 countries will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the world’s diplomatic relations with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The meeting will be chaired by the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has proposed multiple sanctions against the Taliban.

On the other hand, Joe Biden said that the United States wants to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by August 31. Rescue work has been intensified. Attempts are being made to evacuate all US citizens from Afghanistan by August.

Biden said from the White House on Sunday that about 11,000 U.S. citizens and Afghans had been rescued and flown over the country over the weekend. The United States is working to end the rescue operation by August 31.

Biden said, US forces were in regular contact with the Taliban. Communication is being maintained so, that everyone can be brought to the airport smoothly. Biden said the Taliban was cooperating with US forces.

Johnson wants the G-7 summit to impose multiple sanctions on the Taliban. The United States has said it is seeking a decision based on the Taliban’s policy. However, it is clear to diplomats that the G-7 meeting will have a heated discussion on the situation in Afghanistan. The meeting is also expected to discuss Afghan refugees.
