The decision to open the university will be made today

After opening school and college, the pressure to open university is increasing. The Ministry of Education will meet the Vice-Chancellor and the University Grants Commission (UGC) again on Tuesday (September 14) to decide on the university’s reopening.

The meeting will discuss whether any university is willing to reopen its campus before October 15.

On Monday (September 13) night, the UGC chairman said a meeting would be held on Tuesday to discuss the overall situation of the universities.

Earlier, on August 26, the Ministry of Education had decided that all public and private university students would be vaccinated against COVID-19 by September. From October 15, the universities would start physical classes in phases.

The education minister said that the universities, which are scheduled to reopen in mid-October, could resume academic activities if they wished. However, the final decision will be vested in the Academic Council and Syndicate of the concerned university.

It is learned that the education minister is expected to preside over the meeting with top officials of UGC and vice-chancellors of public universities on Tuesday.

The meeting will be attended by the Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health, National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Association, Department of Health Services and other representatives.
