Sheikh Hasina is working to make the nation self-sufficient

Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had given political liberation to the nation, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to make the nation self-sufficient along with development. In the future, we will no longer have to depend on others.

He spoke as the chief guest at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology under the ‘Export Competitiveness for Jobs’ project under the Ministry of Commerce at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Kaliakair, Gazipur Tuesday.

The minister said the country did not get the desired development as anti-independence forces were in power for a long time after the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is now a role model for development globally. If such progress continues in every sector, Bangladesh will become a developed country before 2041.

In his speech, the Minister for Liberation War Affairs emphasized increasing the design and quality of Bangladeshi products, saying that with patronage and technical assistance, it is possible to earn a lot of foreign exchange from sectors like leather and leather products footwear, plastics and light engineering. The Center of Excellence for Science and Technology has been set up for that purpose.

The Ministry of Commerce is implementing the World Bank-funded Export Competitiveness for Jobs flagship project to export diversification to achieve high growth, sustainable development and decent employment. One of the project’s objectives is to increase productivity and improve product quality through the use of state-of-the-art technology. To this end, four state-of-the-art technology centres will be set up in Chittagong, Gazipur and Munshiganj under the project. These world-class technology centres will provide sustainable technical services to the four priority sectors: leather and leather products, footwear, plastics, and light engineering industries.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was the special guest at the function presided over by Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh. Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City Managing Director Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Export Competitiveness for Jobs’ Project Director. Mansurul Alam, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner S. M. Tariqul Islam and Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam were present.
