Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury yesterday said the youth of the country will establish Bangladesh a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“The united youth will establish ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” she said.
She was speaking as the chief guest at a colorful function organized by Holy Cross College here on the occasion of Golden Jubilee of the Country’s Independence and Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu.
About the struggle of Bangladesh’s independence, the speaker added that the liberation war in 1971 came following a series of movements from 1948 to 1952, 1962’s education movement, 1966’s six-point, mass uprising of 1969 and general election of 1970.
During this long journey, Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bangabandhu repeatedly faced imprisonment but he did not bow down to injustice, she said, adding that on the contrary, he proudly mentioned that seven crore Bangalee people could not be suppressed.
In continuation of those hardship and struggle, Bangalee got their own Bangla language, great freedom and unique constitution of the world, she continued.
Holy Cross College’s Governing Body President Archbishop (Dhaka) Bejoy Nicephorus D’Cruze presided over the programme while Holy Cross College Principal Sister Shikha Gomez gave welcome speech on the occasion.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni also attended it as special guest. Holy Cross College’s Governing Body ex-President Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) Senior Scientist Dr Firdausi Qadri and Area of Asia coordinator Sister Violet Rodrigues also spoke.
The event was attended by students, parents, teachers and board members of Holy Cross College.
