PM working to improve people’s fortune: Speaker

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury here yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to improve the fortune of common people.

The philosophy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was to bring a smile on the face of the poor. That is why he has worked all his life for the betterment of the people with the aim of achieving economic freedom.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to complete the unfinished works of Bangabandhu and all these works are visible today,” Dr. Shirin said.

She was speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting arranged at the office of Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Pirganj municipal town followed by distribution of scholarships and bicycles among ethnic students.

Arriving in Pirganj, the Speaker placed wreaths at the mural of Bangabandhu on the Upazila Parishad premises.

In the meeting, she exchanged views with the officials of different departments of the Upazila administration and thanked them for discharging their duties efficiently.

Dr. Shirin greeted all officials and employees of the upazila a happy Bengali New Year-1429. During the meeting, she inquired about the developmental activities of different departments of the upazila and gave necessary directions to the officials concerned.

She also called upon all the officials of Pirganj upazila to work sincerely so that common people would get all the benefits of development easily.

On the occasion, the Speaker distributed 50 bicycles among female students of small ethnic groups in Pirganj as educational materials under the ‘Development Assistance for Special Area (‘Development Assistance for Special Areas’ (except Chittagong Hill Tracts) program.

She also distributed Taka 2,400 to each of the 100 ethnic students from class one to class five, Taka 6,000 to each of the 50 students of class six to class ten and Taka 9,600 to each of the 25 students of class eleven to class twelve as annual one-time scholarship.

The Speaker said that the benefits of widow allowance, old age allowance, disability allowance and lactating mother assistance under the social safety net programs are reaching remote areas now-a-days across the country.

“The people are also enjoying the success of the Padma Bridge, house to house electricity and Asrayan project being implemented with our own funds,” she added.

Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md. Asif Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Pirganj Upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, UNO Biroda Rani Roy, local Awami League leaders, dignitaries and media workers were present.
