Good people don’t want to enter politics: Obaidul Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader accepted the responsibility of not being able to attract good people into politics. “Politicians have failed to make politics attractive to good people,” he said. We who do politics, this failure is our responsibility. Obaidul Quader said these things at the three-year conference session of the Jatiya Party (JP) at the Auditorium of the Engineers Institution in Ramna of the capital on Sunday. Obaidul Quader said that after the assassination of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, Bangladesh started the journey in the opposite direction. He further said the murder of four national leaders, the murder of August 1st, the wall continued to rise higher and higher. But no bridge was built. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, “Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 100 bridges in one day. But we could not build any bridge in politics. We should have had a political working relationship. Democracy cannot survive like this. A strong opposition is needed to save democracy. This is the biggest weakness in our country. Because we surrender again and again to corrupt politics. At that time, the general secretary of Awami League highlighted the politicians and said that corrupt politics gives birth to corrupt people, and corrupt politicians keep corrupt politics alive. The situation in Bangladesh is the same. This is division politics! There was no liberation war for this. Obaidul Quader is the general secretary of the Awami League, which has been in power for a decade and a half. He also said about the lack of good people in politics, “Today good people do not want to come into politics. Today, good people, educated people, honest people, and qualified people are not even close to politics. We who do politics, this failure is our responsibility. It must be admitted. Stating that the reputation of student politics has been lost, Obaidul Quader said, “Today, the situation is the same in our student politics.” Student politics is not popular. Who is here (former student leader of the 70s)? Did the student politics, where is that trend lost today? The General Secretary of Awami League said, “I think that if politics is in the hands of bad people, the country will be bad.” If politics is in the hands of bad people, bad people will be ministers, MPs will run the country, and it will not be good for the country. Good people should be brought into politics, talented people should be brought into politics, and honest people should be brought into politics. Otherwise, politics will become meritless. People with character should be brought into politics, otherwise, politics will become characterless. I wholeheartedly believe that. JP president Anwar Hossain Manju presided over the event and other speeches were made by 14-party alliance coordinator and Awami League advisor Amir Hossain Amu, Workers’ Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Jasad president Hasanul Haque Inu, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, JP general secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam, democratic Patir general secretary Shahadat Hossain, bus convenor Rezaur Rashid Khan and others.
