The government will buy 90 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer from Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Kafco. The total cost will be 296 crore 62 lakh 75 thousand 921 taka.
This proposal was approved in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held on Wednesday (June 14) in the afternoon under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Cabinet Secretary Syed Mahbub Khan presented the details of the approved proposal to the journalists after the meeting. He said that Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industry has approved the purchase of 30 thousand metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnafuli Fertilizer Company Limited (Kafco), Bangladesh at the price of 104 crore 43 lakh 59 thousand 887 taka in the 19th lot.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industry has approved the import of 30 thousand metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer (optional) in the 12th lot from Fertiglob Distribution Limited of the United Arab Emirates through a state contract for Tk 941368617.
Besides, he also said that Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industry has approved the import of 30 thousand metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer at 985 million 47 thousand 417 taka in the 17th lot from Muntajat in Qatar through a state contract.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industry has given in-principle approval for the import of urea fertilizer from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia under the G2G agreement in the financial year 2023-2024.
Among them, in-principle approval has been given for importing 3 lakh 90 thousand metric tons from Fertiglob Distribution Limited of United Arab Emirates, 4 lakh 80 thousand metric tons from Muntajat of Qatar and Sabiq Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia.
