Banauja Sher-e-Bangla, the country’s largest naval base, is set to be inaugurated

Banauja Sher-e-Bangla Naval Base with Naval Training and Aviation Facility at Kalapara in Patuakhali District is fully ready for commissioning (Ongoing).

Navy chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal will formally unveil the nameplate by handing over the commissioning order to the base commander Commodore M Mohabbat Ali through video conference (VTC) from Ganabhaban on Wednesday (July 12) afternoon.

Patrol craft squadrons built by Khulna Shipyard Limited are Shaheed Daulat, Shaheed Farid, Shaheed Mohibbullah, Shaheed Akhtar Uddin.

And four Landing Craft Utilities (LCU) namely Banauja (Bangladesh Navy ship) Dolphin, Whale, Tuna and Penguin will be commissioned.

These ships will officially start operational activities after the Prime Minister’s commissioning.

By including these ships in the fleet, the hot base is effective in increasing the capability of the Navy in the maritime security and protection of the coastal areas including Pyarabandar in the southern part of the country as well as conducting up-to-date training programs for the naval personnel.

In consideration of the importance of a specialized and permanent base in the region to protect the marine resources, especially in the coastal areas, domestic and foreign trade security, the initiative to build this base was taken to implement the ‘Forces Goal 2030’.

On November 19, 2013, the nameplate of ‘Banouja Sher-e-Bangla’ base was unveiled with the inspiration, sincere interest and efforts of the Prime Minister of the present government.

A new naval training center has been set up at the spacious Banauja Sher-i-Bangla base with all modern facilities.

Administrative buildings have been constructed to facilitate operational activities,
Multipurpose shed with aviation support and hangar facilities, various repair and maintenance workshops.

The base also has aviation facilities and commando operations units of the Living Salvage, Naval School and College and a 50-bed hospital.
