Indian Military Colonel and Major Killed in Kashmir during Encounter with Militants

In a tragic incident in the region of Jammu and Kashmir, controlled by India, three military personnel, including a colonel and a major, lost their lives during an encounter with armed militants. Additionally, a Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Jammu and Kashmir Police also succumbed to injuries in the same incident, which took place in the Kokernag area of Anantnag in Kashmir.

According to sources within the Indian armed forces, the commanding officer of the National Rifles, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhanchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Mujamil Bhat were among those who tragically lost their lives during the operation. Colonel Manpreet Singh was leading the operation, which was aimed at countering insurgency and had been ongoing since Tuesday evening.

It is reported that armed militants had been holed up in a local area, and Colonel Manpreet’s team was leading the effort to apprehend them. During the operation, the militants targeted the military personnel, resulting in fatal injuries to Colonel Manpreet Singh. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Similarly, the other military officers and the police officer sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter.

The encounter took place around the Gadoora area of Anantnag, where security forces had initiated an operation on Tuesday evening. The operation resumed on Wednesday morning and tragically ended in the loss of these brave officers’ lives.

This incident occurred in the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, where local armed militants have been active. The militants were associated with a group known as the Resistance Force, according to sources.
