Suddenly, the EC server is closed, the service users suffer

The general service users have suffered as the Election Commission (EC) server has been shut down suddenly without giving any advance notice.

EC officials say that every day thousands of service takers go to election offices to get various services.

Besides, 171 public and private institutions work with server information. Millions of customers are availing services in specialized financial institutions every day. If the Huthat server is down, the service users suffer.

Officials who did not want to be named, citing the massive work the NID service is now doing, said that the suffering would have been reduced if a public notice or some kind of message had been given to the common people in advance.

In this regard, a private bank official Farooq Chowdhury (pseudonym) said, we have to verify NID from the EC server for account opening, loan, deposit-withdrawal of more than 50 thousand rupees through others. Today we were unable to provide instant service due to sudden server shutdown. Many customers have returned. It is a waste of time and money for them. So the matter should be informed in advance. The server may also send a mail to the user that the service will not be available on such a day. They can also advertise in the media.

A victim named Shahed came to the NID branch of the Election Institute. Coming from Jatrabari, you can know that the server is closed. Later he went back. He said, if he had known earlier, he would not have had to push through the jam.

On Tuesday (September 19), EC’s Information System Management Division (NID) Assistant Programmer Aminul Islam said in an internal notice that the server has been working since morning. So all services related to NID will be closed till 20th September.

However, higher authorities refused to talk about it. Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam and NID Director General AKM Humayun went to Kabir’s office but did not speak to reporters.

NID service is down from time to time for server maintenance. Earlier, the server of NID was shut down for about 38 hours from 12:00 PM on August 14.

NID server has information of 11 crore 91 lakh 51 thousand 440 voters. There is also information about 1 million Rohingyas. From this information, the service providers confirm the identity of the service recipients.
