A two-day traditional village-Bengali boating competition was held on the Yamuna river at Bhuyapur in Tangail. Thousands of people flocked to both sides of the river.
There was a festive atmosphere in the surrounding area including Govindasi, centered on boats.
The competition was organized on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 20) in the Yamuna river north west of Gobindasi cow market of the upazila.
Thousands of entertainment-hungry people flock to both banks of the Yamuna to watch the traditional boating. Hundreds of thousands of people of different ages including old people and children from different areas of the district came to see the boat race. Some people hire small or big boats and stay with their families in different places of the river. Colorful boats, musical instruments and all together, the Govindasi area of the Yamuna river was in the mood of the festival. The banks of the Yamuna should become a meeting place for thousands of people.
Decorated boats from different parts of the district and wearing colorful bahari clothes participated in this competition. The waves of the river Yamuna were drowned by the rhythm of village Bengali songs and Baitha.
Going to the surface, it can be seen that many people are enjoying the competition by going down into the water and taking positions in different places including the banks of the river. The people of rural areas are looking forward to seeing Baich with their families by boat. And on the occasion of this competition, there are various shops on the banks of the river. At least 30 boats participated in the boat race.
Humayan Sikdar of Govindasi village said that the festival is going on in our area based on boating. Distant relatives have come to our area. I am very happy to see the boat.
Tanveer Hasan Chhota Monir, Member of Parliament of Tangail-2 Constituency, was the chief guest. Upazila Executive Officer Belal Hossain, Vice Chairman Monirul Islam Babu and others were present under the chairmanship of Dulal Chakdar, convener of the organizing committee and chairman of Gobindasi Union Parishad.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhuyapur Police Station. Ahsanullah said that adequate number of policemen were deployed to maintain law and order in Naukabai. No untoward incident occurred at Baiche.
Member of Parliament Tanveer Hasan Chhota Monir said that this was organized to preserve the tradition of rural Bengal and to give joy to the people of the affected areas of Yamuna. This boating competition will continue in the future.
