Islamophobic fire in mosque in Sweden, extensive damage

A mosque in the city of Eskilstuna in southern-central Sweden was set on fire by anti-Islam extremists, resulting in extensive damage during an incident that occurred on Monday.

The police have reported that the mosque has sustained so much damage from the fire that it is no longer usable.

Officials from the mosque’s community relations department, Anas Denneche, stated that the police are investigating the incident as a deliberate arson attack. Previously, there had been several threats and incidents targeting the mosque by Islamophobic individuals. Investigations into these matters are ongoing.

Denneche also mentioned that no one was present inside the mosque when the fire was set, which fortunately prevented any casualties.

Sweden is currently home to approximately six million Muslims, and there has been a rise in Islamophobia in recent times, with incidents of Quran desecration and anti-Muslim rhetoric. Diplomatic tensions have also arisen between Sweden and some Muslim-majority countries due to these incidents. Some countries have demanded that Sweden recall appointed Swedish diplomats in response to these incidents.
