Today is the 60th Birthday of Martyr Sheikh Russell

For the children and youth of Bangladesh, Sheikh Russel is a name of emotion, a name of love. Russel is alive among everyone as a human being in the nooks and crannies of the country, said Md. Shahidullah Khandakar, former secretary and representative of the development activities of the Gopalganj-3 (Tungipara-Kotwalipara) constituency of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On the occasion of the birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he paid deep respect to his memory.

He said, “The most cruel and barbaric incident in the world is the 15th of August 1975. We remember every moment, every moment of that horrific night with deep sorrow. On this day, the child Sheikh Russel was also not saved from the cruel bullets of the killers. The fiends killed him brutally with Bangabandhu. Sheikh Russel, the younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on this day in the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi. He was a fourth-grader at the University Laboratory School at the time of his death.

He further said that he had repeatedly pleaded with the killers not to kill him, saying, “Take me to my mother.” Even though the Creator’s throne shook at the cry of Russel, the hearts of the killers could not be shaken. This innocent child was killed in cold blood. We have to turn the grief of his untimely death into our strength.”

Md. Shahidullah Khandakar said, “If Russel had survived, he would have been a magnanimous, far-sighted and ideal leader. The country and the nation could have been proud of him. I pray for the forgiveness of the departed soul of dear Russel. May Allah grant him Jannatul Ferdous. Amen.”
