The United Nations Security Council has become divided over Israel’s indiscriminate attack in Gaza. In yesterday’s Wednesday meeting of the Security Council, two consecutive proposals (resolutions) were presented. However, neither the United States nor Russia exercised their veto power.
At the beginning of the meeting, a draft proposal was presented by the United States. It emphasized ‘restraint on both sides’ in Gaza. Without explicitly mentioning Israel, it stated that every country has the right to defend itself.
The permanent members of the Security Council, Russia and China, opposed the U.S. proposal. They vetoed it. Apart from them, the temporary member United Arab Emirates (UAE) voted against the proposal.
