This briefing will take place today, Monday, at the National Guest House Jamuna. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen will inform the invited representatives about the ongoing political situation. Several members of the cabinet will also be present at this briefing. Last night, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent invitations to foreign diplomatic missions, the United Nations, and international organizations.
According to diplomatic sources, it was initially mentioned that the events surrounding the BNP’s grand rally on October 28 would be discussed and the government’s stance would be conveyed to the international community. It is known that preparations have been made to discuss the law enforcement actions to thwart the violence at the BNP rally and to respond to the arrest of BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and others. They will be prepared to answer various questions from foreigners in this regard.
Opponents, led by the BNP, have been protesting the establishment of a non-partisan government during the election period. On the other hand, they have almost finalized the announcement of the details of the 12th parliamentary election by the Election Commission. Along with that, the discussion of an uninterrupted, fair, and peaceful election is clearly stated by the United States and European countries. It is known that to express the government’s commitment to such an uninterrupted, fair, and peaceful election under the Constitution, a briefing will be held in cooperation with the Election Commission.
The constitutional or non-partisan government, which the opposition has opposed to the establishment, is not acceptable to the government under any circumstances. Apart from that, any claims by them will be challenged in the briefing by the government.
