Bangladesh has faced defeat in all five matches in the Cricket World Cup, one of which was against the Netherlands. They lost to the Dutch team by 87 runs, and their performance in most matches was not up to par. Additionally, Bangladesh lost to India, New Zealand, England, and South Africa in significant matches. They currently hold the 9th position in the points table.
Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan believes that Bangladesh is not performing well in the World Cup, especially when compared to England. He humorously remarked that Bangladesh has disappointed him. He also mentioned that the loss against the Netherlands, where they were all out for 142 runs, is not acceptable.
Vaughan further commented that there seems to be something missing in the Bangladesh team. They couldn’t achieve the modest target against the Netherlands, and the wickets were a bit challenging. He also questioned the players’ motivation, suggesting that they might not be playing for the team’s success but rather for individual performance.
Bangladesh had reached the semi-finals in the last ICC Champions Trophy. However, it’s uncertain whether they will be able to play in the Champions Trophy this time as they currently stand at the 9th position in the points table. To qualify for the Champions Trophy, they need to be in the top 8, which may be a tough task for Bangladesh in the next three matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and commentator Dinesh Karthik also mentioned that this competition would be quite challenging for Bangladesh. He pointed out that the teams aiming for the Champions Trophy are the ones that will find it most difficult. First, they have a few tough matches ahead of them, and second, their batsmen lack consistency. He cited examples of Bangladesh’s key players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Liton Das, who have not performed consistently in the tournament.
Karthik praised Mahmudullah for being in good form, but his runs didn’t contribute significantly to the team’s success. He noted that it’s not Mahmudullah’s fault but a collective issue that the team needs to address.
