The way Dhoni fooled the Bangladesh team by knowing Bangla

The story of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is inspiring. He used to check railway tickets in Kharagpur, a city in the West Medinipur district of India. From there, he became the most successful captain in India’s cricket history. Interestingly, Dhoni learned the Bengali language during his time in Kharagpur. His knowledge of Bengali even made Bangladesh cricket players the subject of a funny incident.

During a match against Bangladesh, Dhoni was communicating with a fast bowler in Bengali from one end of the pitch. The opposing team couldn’t understand what he was saying. At the end of the match, the Bangladesh players were discussing amongst themselves, and when they saw Dhoni’s reaction, they realized he could understand Bengali. This amusing incident delighted the spectators.

Dhoni played a total of 34 matches in Bangladesh between 2004 and 2016. He won 25 of those matches. After the 2019 World Cup, he kept the Indian jersey and became a commercial ambassador. He is still playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and in the recent tournament, he led the Chennai Super Kings to victory. Under his captaincy, India won three significant ICC trophies: the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. His leadership also saw India rise to the top of the Test rankings, and they won the 2013 ICC ODI Championship. Dhoni’s journey from a railway ticket checker in Kharagpur to cricket legend is indeed inspiring.
