In the Israel-Palestine conflict, a British Member of Parliament (MP) from the Labour Party has resigned from his party due to his stand on the situation and the ongoing crisis. Imran Hussain, the MP for Bradford East in the UK, submitted his resignation letter to the party leader on Tuesday night. Imran Hussain stated, “I am expressing a strong demand for a ceasefire in the recent weeks of the conflict in Gaza. Given the recent escalating human tragedy in Gaza, my perspective is entirely different from the party leader’s position.”
In his resignation letter to the party leader, he wrote, “It has become clear in the past few weeks that my view is entirely different from your taken position on the ongoing situation in Gaza. To bring an end to the bloodshed, ensure adequate relief in Gaza, and secure a safe return for Israeli citizens, a ceasefire is essential.”
Concerning the struggle for a ceasefire in Gaza, Karim supported the government’s call, which the United States also endorses. Still, he eventually halted his support for the truce of the war party. Karim argued that if a ceasefire is effective, it will encourage the Hamas militant group and start preparations for future violence.
The conflict started after Hamas fighters in Gaza launched rocket attacks on Israel on October 7. In response to the attacks, Israel initiated a major offensive and invaded Gaza. Israeli officials reported that about 1,400 people have been killed in the conflict, most of whom were civilians. In response to the offensive, Hamas was given a pledge of non-recognition, and Israel intensified its attacks in Gaza. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 10,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in Gaza.
