Crying in India’s dressing room, difficult to accept, says coach

After losing the World Cup final, emotions were high as Mohammed Siraj was seen in tears while leaving the field. Lokesh Rahul seemed shattered within. Despite captain Rohit Sharma’s attempt to maintain composure, Virat Kohli was witnessed, head bowed, displaying his emotions before leaving the field.

The Indian team, shattered emotionally on the field after the loss, was reported to have broken down in tears in the dressing room later, an event Coach Rahul Dravid referenced in a post-match press conference. Dravid expressed how heartbreaking it was to see the boys, after months of hard work and sacrifice, succumb to such emotions.

India, despite playing exceptional cricket throughout the tournament, suffered a defeat to Pat Cummins’ Australian team, losing by 6 wickets. Times of India reported the entire Indian dressing room was in tears post-match, with Rohit Sharma notably absent from the official press conference.

When asked about the captain’s state of mind, Coach Rahul Dravid commented, “Yes, he was disappointed. Like everyone else in the dressing room.” Dravid also mentioned the emotional atmosphere prevailing in the dressing room, saying, “It’s tough for me as a coach to see the boys like this. I know the hard work and sacrifices these boys have made.”

Rahul, familiar with the heartache of the World Cup, also empathized with the situation. He himself was part of the Indian team that lost the 2003 World Cup final to Australia. Additionally, in the 2007 World Cup, he bid farewell to the team in the group stages. This year, as the coach, his team faced defeat in the final against Australia in the World Test Championship.

Seeking solace in the unpredictability of sports, Rahul aimed to find reassurance, stating, “This is the game. This is how it happens. It can happen. The best team wins on a particular day. I know tomorrow the sun will rise again. We’ll learn from this. It’ll work for us. We have to move forward. We won’t stop.”

Emotional ups and downs are part of the game, and Rahul sought encouragement, stating, “That’s the game. That’s how it goes. It can happen. The best team wins on a particular day. I know tomorrow the sun will rise again. We’ll learn from this. It’ll work for us. We have to move forward. We won’t stop.”
