US Senate stalls Israeli aid

Republicans in the U.S. Senate have blocked an advance of a $110 billion aid package for Ukraine and Israel during wartime. They have taken this step with the goal of exerting pressure on President Joe Biden regarding a change in American border policies.

A minimum of 60 votes was required in the Senate to proceed. Just hours after Joe Biden expressed ‘amazement’ at the proposal to allocate billions of dollars as military and economic aid to Ukraine by the American Congress, the incident occurred in the Senate.

President Biden, going to the White House to make a statement, remarked that Republicans are discussing border policies as a condition for voting on the aid package. He warned that this move could lead to dangerous consequences and might serve as a ‘gift’ for Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

While making a statement at the White House, Biden said, “Republicans are talking about border security as a condition for voting on the aid package. They are actually choosing a path of conflict over our national security.”

President Biden is seeking approval for an approximately $106 billion emergency fund for Ukraine, Israel, and several other countries. However, there is strong opposition from Capitol Hill on this matter.
