Agreement with the EU on Aviation

Bangladesh has agreed to sign a bilateral agreement for air travel with European Union (EU) countries. This approval was granted at a cabinet meeting held on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain briefed the media at the Secretariat. He stated that Bangladesh has existing agreements for air travel with various countries, including EU nations.

The EU proposed to sign an agreement with us regarding air travel. Discussions were held on their proposal, and now an agreement will be signed. If an agreement is reached, we must adhere to the standards and regulations of the EU. Mahbub Hossain also mentioned that the Cabinet has approved the cultural cooperation agreement between Bangladesh and Kosovo.

To boost maritime tourism, the government has formulated a policy called ‘Maritime Tourism Policy 2023,’ which has also been approved by the Cabinet. Mahbub Hossain informed us that this policy has been approved for the first time. The policy outlines how the government will cooperate with private investors, facilitate opportunities and amenities for tourists, and coordinate with international tour operators, with a focus on creating a tourism economy based on the Bay of Bengal. The policy also addresses the cooperation and coordination needed for those who want to undertake pilgrimages by sea.
