Imran and Qureshi accused again in wiretapping case

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi have been accused again in a diplomatic conversation-related case. Yesterday, Wednesday, this allegation was formed by Judge Abuwal Hasnat Julkarain in the special court of the country.

In this case, the accused politicians are claiming innocence. They argue that they are not involved with the misuse of diplomatic conversation for political purposes, a crime related to the accusation.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the hearing of this case took place. Members of Imran and Qureshi’s families were present there. In addition, to observe how the judicial proceedings are being conducted, several journalists were allowed to be present there. On that day, despite the objection of Imran Khan’s lawyer to the presence of media workers in the High Court, six separate applications were filed regarding the conduct of the proceedings, journalists’ access rights, and the handling of the case files.

Under the Official Secrets Act of 2023 in Pakistan, the special court for this case has been formed. Earlier, on October 23, Imran and Qureshi were accused in this case by the special court. They were temporarily detained inside the prison. Opposition from Imran and Qureshi’s side was expressed. In this context, the Islamabad High Court last month declared the actions of the judges conducting such cases inside the prison as ‘invalid’. At that time, the proceedings of this case were stopped. However, recently, the country’s cabinet allowed the resumption of the judicial proceedings of this case in the prison.
