Washington has pledged to continue the resettlement of Rohingyas from various countries of the world including Bangladesh to the United States. It will also encourage other countries to resettle the Rohingya. These promises were made in a Friday notification from the US State Department.
According to the notification published on the US Department of State website, the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) was organized in Geneva, Switzerland from December 13 to 15. The United States has pledged 26 issues at the largest conference on refugees. The issue of the Rohingya crisis also came up in it.
According to the notification, Rohingyas from Bangladesh and other countries will be resettled in the United States under USRAP (United States Refugee Admission Program) in fiscal year 2024. In addition, Washington will encourage other countries to resettle the Rohingya in 2024.
Mentioning the issue of giving the Rohingyas access to the US labor market, it is said that Washington will make various efforts to support Rohingyas’ literacy, technical training, and skill development. The United States will work effectively to further engage international financial institutions in assisting the Rohingya and host countries. In addition, domestic coordination between US humanitarian and development assistance to the Rohingya and their host countries will be strengthened.
The US government says the number of displaced people worldwide is growing at an unprecedented rate. As of December 2023, according to data provided by the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, more than 130 million people have been forcibly displaced around the world.
