Schools will remain open during Ramadan: Appeals Division

The High Court has suspended a separate notification to keep primary and secondary schools open during the holy month of Ramadan. As a result, schools will be open during Ramadan.

On Tuesday (March 12), the Appeals Bench, led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, issued the order.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin appeared for the state in court. On behalf of the petitioner, senior lawyer AKM Foyez was present.

Earlier, on Sunday (March 10), the High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khijir Hayat suspended the order, including the High Court bench rule, after the primary hearing of a writ petition filed by a guardian.

Senior lawyers AKM Foyez and lawyer Mahamuda Khan appeared for the writ petitioner in court.

On that day, Senior Lawyer AKM Foyez said that the High Court has suspended the government’s decision to keep primary schools open for 10 days and high schools for 15 days during Ramadan for two months. At the same time, the High Court has issued a rule.

Against this suspended order, the state filed an application in the Appeals Division on Monday (March 11).

The state applied for a hearing in the full bench of the Appeals Division for Tuesday in response to the High Court’s order.

In a notification issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on February 8, it was stated that the decision to continue regular teaching activities in government primary schools during the first 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan has been taken with partial amendment to the holiday list and academic calendar for the 2024 academic year.

On the other hand, the decision has been taken by the Ministry of Education to continue the classes of government and non-government secondary and lower secondary schools from March 11 to March 25, a total of 15 days, during the academic year 2024 (Bangla year 1430-1431).
