Starting from today, the operation hours of the metro rail have been extended by one hour, considering passenger demand. From Wednesday (March 27), the metro rail will operate until 9:40 p.m.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) authorities stated that on the 16th Ramadan (March 27), the last trains from Motijheel will depart at 9:40 p.m., and from Uttara at 9:20 p.m.
Currently, the metro rail operates from 7:00 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. Trains run every 8 minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during off-peak hours.
From Wednesday, trains will run every 12 minutes during extended hours. This will increase the number of operating trains to 10. As a result, the total number of metro rail services per day will be 194. Additionally, it has been decided to suspend metro rail services on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to DMTCL sources, the metro rail has the capacity to transport five lakh passengers daily. To achieve this, trains need to run every four minutes. Currently, there are 24 train sets available. Plans are in place to operate the metro rail at maximum capacity by June.
MD of DMTCL, M A N Siddique, mentioned that their target is to transport five lakh passengers daily. Hence, they are analyzing the types of passenger movements since the commencement of operations. The operation and electricity costs of the metro rail are significant. If passenger numbers increase, the revenue will also increase accordingly.
