Invitation to Italian Entrepreneurs to Invest in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged Italian businessmen to invest in Bangladesh, highlighting the potential for entry into the markets of South Asia and Southeast Asia alongside the local market.

During a meeting with Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro at Ganabhaban on Sunday (May 12), the Prime Minister expressed this invitation.

Later, her speechwriter, Md. Nazrul Islam, briefed the journalists.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Italian businessmen and investors can invest in Bangladesh, especially in special economic zones.

Referring to the possibility of tapping into vast internal and regional markets in Bangladesh, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh could become a major center in the region.

She mentioned that Bangladesh will be developed into a prosperous country by 2026, and she seeks Italy’s cooperation in ensuring GSP facilities for Bangladeshi products in European markets.

Emphasizing the importance of enhancing trade and investment between the two countries, she said there are extensive opportunities for business and investment growth between Bangladesh and Italy.

Sheikh Hasina called upon Italy to cooperate in various sectors including technology transfer, defense procurement, and modernization. She also mentioned Italy’s interest in supplying Bangladesh with its second satellite.

The diplomats present at the meeting also agreed on the importance of enhancing trade and investment between the two countries.

The Rohingya issue was also discussed during the talks, with both sides agreeing on the dignified return of Rohingyas to their homeland as the solution to the crisis.

Among others present at the meeting were Mohammad Salahuddin, Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office.
