Blinken Welcomes Dr. Yunus, Pledges to Work Together

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken Welcomes Interim Government Led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the interim government of Bangladesh led by Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. On Saturday (3 AM Bangladesh time), he posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) expressing his support.

Secretary Blinken stated, “We welcome the interim government of Bangladesh, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser. The call for calm and restraint that Dr. Yunus has made is supported by the United States. Additionally, the U.S. is committed to working together in efforts to build a democratic and prosperous future for the people of Bangladesh.”

Previously, on Friday, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy had also welcomed the interim government of Bangladesh on the UK government’s website.

In his statement, David Lammy said, “The United Kingdom welcomes the interim government of Bangladesh, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser. The UK fully supports the interim government in restoring peace and order in the country for the benefit of the Bangladeshi people.”
