The United States wants to work with Bangladesh on mutual values and common interests during the interim government. This was stated by Major General Pat Ryder, the spokesperson of the Pentagon of the US Department of Defense.
He said this in response to a journalist’s question at a press conference on Tuesday (August 20).
The journalist said, how does the Pentagon see the role of the country’s army in protecting peace and stability under the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate in Bangladesh? Is there any cooperation or communication between the military forces of the United States and Bangladesh during this transition?
In response, Major General Ryder said, you know, we have defense relations with Bangladesh. We look forward to working on mutual values and common interests. For example, we will work for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Now there is nothing specific to say about such cooperation or communication.
He said that as it relates to the Bangladesh government, we hope that human rights will be protected in Bangladesh and any kind of violence avoided. We urge you to contact the State Department for any questions regarding US-Bangladesh relations.
