Flood situation has worsened in Laxmipur. The water is rising rapidly, people are running to shelters.

Although there is no rain since Friday (August 23), the water is increasing. The flood water of neighboring Noakhali district is entering the locality of Lakshmipur through Rahmatkhali Canal. This has increased the height of the water. As a result, local people fear severe floods.

Incessant rains in Lakshmipur for the past few days have resulted in waterlogging in almost all areas of the district. However, even though it has not rained for the past two years, the water level continues to rise. As a result, there is a danger of severe flooding. The situation is dire in the municipal areas of Sadar Upazila, Mandari, Chandraganj, Uttar Jaipur, Dattapara, Charshahi, Kushakhali, Tewariganj, Bhabaniganj, Bangakha, Parvatinagar, Tumchar Union and Charkadira and Ramgati Char Badam, Char Poragacha Union, Raipur and Ramganj upazilas of Kamalnagar in the district. .

Housewife Kajal Begum’s house is knee-deep in water. Water has risen on the bed. So he took four members of the family to the shelter. His house is in Khalpar area of ​​Ward No. 14 of Lakshmipur Municipality. He took shelter in the building of Municipal Ideal College.

150 families like Kajal Begum have taken shelter in the school. All their houses are in ward number 2 and 14 of the municipality. Apart from Municipal Ideal College, hundreds of families have taken shelter in a local women’s madrassa.

Jasmine, Nayan and Rina Begum told BanglaNews that all of us have drowned. Knee-high water in the house. There is no condition to stay. I was afraid of the children of the family. No cooking facilities. So I am forced to come to the shelter.

They also said that some are giving dry food to the shelter. However, due to lack of rice, there was no provision for cooking rice. I am passing the day by eating dry food.

Almost everyone in our neighborhood has water in their houses. People are suffering a lot. There is no rain, but the water is increasing day by day.

Sharmin and Jannatul Ferdous, residents of Jadaiya village of Mandari Union of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila, said that there is knee-deep water in front of the house. Haven’t entered the house yet. But as the height of the water is increasing, water can enter the house at any time. Around the house there is an increase in the number of snakes. I am afraid of children.

They also said that water has risen in many houses around them. They took shelter in a local school. They are not able to provide food as the cooking stove is under water. All in all, an inhumane situation has been created.

Mohammad Hasan, a resident of Chandraganj area and journalist, said that Chandraganj and North Jaipur and surrounding rural towns have been submerged. Water has risen in someone’s house. Some have taken refuge in shelters.

Deputy Commissioner Suraiya Jahan said that about six lakh people of Panch Upazila of the district have become waterlogged. Upazila administration is distributing dry food to the affected people.
