After being closed for more than a month, the metro rail has finally started. Metro is running since Sunday (August 25) morning.
This brought relief to the city dwellers, who were annoyed by the severe traffic jams of the past few days.
On this day at 7:10 AM, the first metro train left from Uttara Uttara Metrorail Station for Motijheel Station. Then another train left from the same station at 7:20 am. Only MRT pass holders can board these two trains. Since then Metrorail is running as usual.
In this regard, the station controller of Farmgate metro station said. Anwar Hossain said that the metro rail started running at the scheduled time of 7:10. Since then, the metro is running as normal as in the past.
Due to the closure of the metro rail, there has been heavy traffic jam on the roads of the capital for the past few days. After a long time, the traffic congestion has been reduced as the metro rail has started running again. City dwellers can also go to the destination with ease. Especially the passengers of Uttara, Mirpur, Farmgate have reduced the suffering of being stuck on the road for a long time.
Fahadul Islam, a student, was going to Dhaka University from Agargaon by metro in the morning. He told BanglaNews that in the past few days, he had to face traffic jams when he went out on the road. Sometimes a long time would pass for a short distance. It could not reach the destination on time. Now that the metro is running again, one can reach the destination easily at the specified time.
Ashikur Rahman, a jobber, was going to the secretariat by metro rail from Mirpur. He said, earlier I could take the metro from Kazipara in front of the house. But now as that station is closed, we have to come to Sheorapara. Still happy that metro is running. Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations need to be fixed and opened soon.
Although the metro rail has started, the metro train is not stopping at the Mirpur-10 and Kazipara metro rail stations due to the damage to the stations. As a result passenger services are closed at those two stations.
A police box was set on fire in the Mirpur-10 station area on July 18 due to violence surrounding the quota reform movement. Metrorail was closed in the afternoon that day. The next day Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations were vandalized.
A few days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited decided to close two stations and start the metro rail service. But the Metrorail could not be started at that time as the Metrorail employees went on strike. Metrorail started recently as Metrorail employees joined the work.
