Starting Sunday, November 3, Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s leading airline and a member of Star Alliance, will launch direct flights on the Dhaka-Addis Ababa route.
The airline will operate five flights weekly, enabling Bangladeshi travelers access to over 155 destinations across Africa, Europe, North America, and beyond.
Yohannes Bekele, Ethiopian Airlines’ Area Manager for Bangladesh, shared in a statement that the inaugural flight, a state-of-the-art Boeing Dreamliner 787-9, will arrive at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:30 AM on November 3, departing for Addis Ababa at 9:40 AM the same day.
Regular flights on this route will depart Dhaka in the mornings on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with additional flights on Mondays and Fridays.
Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Commercial Officer Lemma Yadecha and Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Air Vice Marshal M. Mofizur Rahman will attend the launch event.
Group CEO Mesfin Tasew noted, “Bangladesh is a vibrant and rapidly growing market. We are confident our modern fleet and exceptional service will meet travel demands between our two regions, enhancing socio-economic ties between Bangladesh and Ethiopia.”
Sohag Hossain, Managing Director of Rhythm Group, Ethiopian Airlines’ General Sales Agent in Bangladesh, emphasized the new route as an opportunity to bring Bangladesh closer to the world. With competitive fares and a vast network, Ethiopian Airlines is expected to become a preferred choice for Bangladeshi travelers.
The new service will offer affordable connections to major European and North American cities through Addis Ababa, particularly benefiting Bangladeshi expatriates.
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline network with 147 aircraft, is recognized as the world’s fourth-largest airline in terms of destinations. It already plays a significant role in South Asia, operating flights to Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Karachi. The new Dhaka route is part of the airline’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence across Asia.
