Police Operations Intensified in the Capital, 248 Arrested in a Day

To ensure public safety and maintain law and order, police operations have been intensified in the Dhaka Metropolitan area. As part of this initiative, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and other law enforcement agencies have increased coordinated checkpoints and patrol activities.

Over the past 24 hours, a crackdown was carried out in various parts of the city, resulting in the arrest of 248 individuals involved in different crimes.

On Tuesday (February 25), Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division confirmed this information.

According to the DMP’s Crime Command and Control Center, in the past 24 hours, 500 patrol teams were deployed across 50 police station areas in Dhaka to ensure public security. Additionally, 54 police checkpoints were set up at key strategic locations in the metropolitan area. Alongside DMP’s patrol teams, seven teams from the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, four teams from the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), and ten teams from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were also on duty in crime-prone areas. Moreover, apart from DMP’s checkpoints, 31 additional checkpoints were operated by the specialized police unit, APBN.

Among those arrested in the past 24 hours are 14 robbers, 16 active professional snatchers, seven extortionists, 11 thieves, 22 identified drug dealers, and 44 individuals with outstanding warrants, along with others involved in various crimes.

Authorities also recovered various weapons from the detainees, including three knives, four daggers, one pair of pliers, one screwdriver, one iron crowbar, one machete, one cleaver, and two iron rods. Additionally, law enforcement seized 49.87 kg of cannabis and 704 pieces of yaba tablets during the operation.

In the past 24 hours, 59 cases have been filed across different police stations under the DMP. Legal action has been taken against those arrested. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police remains committed to ensuring the overall safety and smooth movement of the city’s residents.
