Professor Dr. Abdullah has been honored with the Gold Medal of the ‘Sheikh Hasina Initiative’ for his contribution to the establishment and development of community clinics

For his contributions to the establishment and development of community clinics, Prime Minister’s Personal Physician Emeritus Professor Dr. ABM Abdullah has been awarded the ‘Dhaka Tribune Initiative’ Gold Medal. Additionally, two other distinguished individuals have also received awards.

During the 24th anniversary celebration of the Community Clinic, held at Osmani Smriti Milonayoton in the capital on Tuesday (April 30), President Md. Sahabuddin presented him with the medal.

The other two recipients of the Gold Medal are Dr. Ahmed Al Kabir, a freedom fighter and guest lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, and Dr. Nahid Ferdous, the director of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Center in Gopalganj.

Health Minister Professor Dr. Samant Lal Sen, Secretary of the Health Service Division Jahangir Alam, Additional Secretary and Management Director of the Community Clinic Assistance Trust Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Kabir, and Line Director of Community-Based Healthcare (CBHC) Dr. M. Kaiyum Talukder were also present at the ceremony, chaired by the president of the Community Clinic Support Trust, Professor Dr. Syed Modasser Ali.

Professor Abdullah’s Additional Achievements

Professor Dr. ABM Abdullah has made extraordinary contributions to the overall development of medical education, healthcare, and research, maintaining dignity and excellence. His recognized expertise has earned him 16 national and international awards and honors in the field of medicine.

In November last year, Dr. ABM Abdullah received the ‘Meher Kabir Science Literature Award 2023’ from the Bangladesh Academy. The award will be presented officially at the 46th Annual General Meeting of the Academy.

For his contribution to medical services, on February 24, last year, Professor Abdullah was honored with the ‘Shahid Dhirendranath Datta Memorial Medal.’

Earlier, on October 26 of the previous year, the private television channel ‘Deshe TV’ awarded lifetime honors to the prime minister’s personal physician. He was honored at a hotel in the capital.

In April of the same year, he was appointed as a member of the advisory board of the 24th International Edition of Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine, a renowned medical textbook.

For his contribution to research, he was awarded the second highest civilian award ‘Ekushey Padak’ by the government in 2016. In 2017, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Bangla Academy.
