Corona vaccination program has started in 34 Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas of Cox’s Bazar from Tuesday.
The short-lived immunization program was inaugurated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (August 10) at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, according to Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon Mahbubur Rahman. He said, Rohingyas aged 55 and above would be vaccinated in the first phase.
Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Office of Health Coordinator Abu Toha MR Bhuiyan said, there were plans to vaccinate a total of 48,600 Rohingya citizens at 58 vaccination centers in 34 camps in Ukhia and Teknaf for three days from Tuesday. He said, two trained vaccinators and three volunteers would be on duty at each center.
Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rashid said, 228 vaccination centers have been set up in Cox’s Bazar. In the meantime, about 46,000 people in the district have come under the mass vaccination.
He said, vaccination would start from tomorrow at 57 centers of Rohingya camps in Teknaf and Ukhia. 48,000 Rohingya refugees will get the first dose of the vaccine.
He also said that the Rohingya’s are being vaccinated not with the funding of any organization but with the funding of the entire Bangladesh government.
