Discovery of 28th gas field in the country at Zakiganj

Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company-BAPEX has found a new gas field in Zakiganj, Sylhet. This is the 28th gas field in the country. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the gas field would produce 10 million cubic feet of gas per day. About 6 BCF gas is stored here.

The information was given by the state minister in a brief briefing at the secretariat on Monday (August 9). He said gas can be extracted from here for about 12 to 13 years. Its financial value is 1200 crore rupees. He said it is the 28th gas field in the country.

Commenting on the Energy Security Day on Monday (August 9), he said it was a great gift, adding that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu had taken a landmark step on August 9. The journey of the state gas field in the country started with the purchase of five gas fields. He bought it for four and a half million pounds. We are still taking gas from that gas field.

He said when the Awami League government came to power in 2009, it received 1400 million cubic feet of gas, at present 2500 million cubic feet of gas is extracted. It can be said that about 1000 million cubic feet of gas has been connected to our pipeline during the current government.

It is to be mentioned that BAPEX was able to light the flame of DST (Drill Steam State) at Zakiganj in Sylhet on June 15 at 10 am. The source of the gas is confirmed after four-step testing as per the rules. The first test ended on 15 June. The well has a pressure of 6,000 PSI (per square inch) and a floating pressure of more than 11,000. It is learned that BAPEX is looking at the possibility of getting gas in the well in four levels. Beanibazar is 32 km away from this new field and Golapganj is 46 km away.
