US and NATO troops are leaving Afghanistan after a long 20-year war. US President Joe Biden will finally speak on the campaign to evacuate people from the country. The White House says, he will speak on Friday (August 20).
A New York Times report says, more than 16,000 people have been evacuated from Kabul airport since the Taliban seized power. People are still crowding outside Kabul airport to leave Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, in an interview with ABC News, US President Joe Biden said, US troops could remain in Afghanistan even after the deadline set for the withdrawal of US troops from the country. They are considering the decision as Taliban fighters are preventing people from arriving at Kabul airport.
Earlier, Biden announced that all US troops and civilians would be withdrawn from Afghanistan by August 31.
