Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md. Tajul Islam said the Netherlands wants to share its experience with Bangladesh in sustainable urban development by tackling the adverse effects of climate change.
The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Anne Gerard van Lewin, expressed her interest in a courtesy call on the Minister at the Ministry on Sunday.
Md. Tajul Islam said that the Netherlands had expressed interest in developing a sustainable city by tackling the problems created in the city due to climate change.
The Minister said that our future work with Delta Plan is to ensure safe and sustainable food production for the city dwellers by evaluating the flow of food products, developing small-scale water management, sewerage system in Khulna City Corporation, and working on climate adaptation in the city.
The Ambassador of the Netherlands highly appreciated the unusual development activities in various sectors under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and assured cooperation in all aspects, including economic, social, and environmentally sustainable development.
Mentioning that Bangladesh has set a precedent for humanity by sheltering the displaced Rohingyas, the Ambassador expressed his firm belief that the Netherlands would stand by Bangladesh in resolving this issue.
During the meeting, they discussed in detail various issues of mutual interest between the two countries. Senior Secretary of the Local Government Department Helaluddin Ahmed, Dhaka WASA Managing Director Taksim A Khan, and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the occasion.
