Biden pointedly criticizes Putin-Jinping

US President Joe Biden has sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping for not attending the UN-sponsored COP-26 conference on climate change in Glasgow, Scotland, in a bid to save the world from a climate crisis. In a speech delivered Tuesday night (November 2) local time, Biden practically took the Russian and Chinese presidents by the hand.

The British media reported this information in a report on Wednesday (November 3). The conference kicked off last Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland, with the participation of more than 25,000 members of governments, heads of state, and organizations from around the world aimed at controlling global warming. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the conference.

In his speech on Tuesday night, President Biden said that climate change and tackling the related crisis in the current global situation is an important issue. Still, China did not participate in the COP-27 conference. He added that Russia and Putin had done the same.

The BBC says Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the climate conference, but both countries sent delegations there. They will stay there till November 14 and take part in various discussions.

President Joe Biden said Beijing presented itself to other countries as China took on a new role as a world leader. But President Xi Jinping’s absence from the climate conference is “a big mistake.”

Joe Biden also criticized the Russian president. He says Russia’s forests are burning and that the Russian president is “silent.”

China is the largest carbon emitter in the world. The United States is in the next position. Russia is in fifth place after India and the European Union (EU).

Note that the adverse effects of climate change around the world are now evident. As a result of climate change, natural disasters such as hurricanes, cyclones, and tidal surges are rising. At the same time, the sea level is rising.

In this context, many believe that the crisis could be exacerbated by the non-participation of the Russian and Chinese presidents in the ongoing UN climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
