China is interested in strengthening cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors including renewable energy, hi-tech.

China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong expressed his interest during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Sunday (May 28) night.

Later, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists.

China’s vice minister said that China and Bangladesh can increase cooperation in some sectors, including renewable energy and hi-tech. There is potential for further collaboration.

The Prime Minister said that China is one of the main development partners of Bangladesh. Attention should be given to how to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Mentioning Bangladesh’s special economic zone allocation for Chinese entrepreneurs, they can set up factories there.

China’s Vice Minister congratulated Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the President of his country.

Appreciating the development of Bangladesh, the Chinese Vice Minister said that he visited Bangladesh 10 years ago. Bangladesh has progressed more than that time. Bangladesh has made unprecedented development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Chinese Vice Minister visited 5 projects with Chinese cooperation including Padma Bridge.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Thanking the Chinese government for supporting Bangladeshi students studying in China, Sheikh Hasina said about six thousand Bangladeshi students are studying in China and many of them have returned to the country during the Covid pandemic. Sheikh Hasina thanked the Chinese government for helping these students to return after the epidemic.

At this time, the Prime Minister’s Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin, Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister Md. Tofajzel Hossain Mia, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Maritime Affairs Unit) Rear Admiral (Retd.) Md. Khurshed Alam and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.
